Damaris Delivers Rough X-Mas Present For Chipeta

26.12.2005: Even during Christmas, Fight Production was active. Damaris Muthoni took on fellow Kenyan Monique Chipeta on December 24 at the Kenyatta International Coference Center in Nairobi on December 24, and didn’t waste much time registering her second straight victory after loosing a WIBF title shot on points to Ina Menzer in Germany this past September.

The fight was originally scheduled to take place on December 12, but eventually moved to the 24th after organizational problems forced promoter Franklyn Imbenzi to postpone. But the twelve extra days in the gym only hurt Chipeta, who from the start was out-punched and out-smarted by Muthoni. In round two, Muthoni caught her foe along the ropes and unleashed a flurry that almost send Chipeta down, but she was rescued by the referee before hitting the canvas.

With the victory, Muthoni improved her record to 8-3-2 (4), while Chipeta dropped to 2-3 (1) with one no-contest. The fight was shown live on KBC TV throughout Kenya, and around 4000 spectators filled the KICC. Three title fights on the card saw David Kiilu win the WBF Intercontinental super featherweight title with a unanimous decision over Obote Ameme, Michael Muya win the UBO Intercontinental light welterweight title on points over Chaurembo Palasa, and Conjestina Achieng win the WBF women’s “world” middleweight title by stopping Guillermina Fernandez from Argentina in the opening round.
