04.04.06:
Fighting in near-by Potsdam on March 31, on the inaugral
installment of ‘Friday Night Fights’ by new promoter Elite
Boxing, Berlin cruiserweight Marco Heinichen pleased his
parents in the crowd with a unanimous 4-round decision win over
Slovakia’s Imrich Borka.
It was
high-time for the 32-year-old Heinichen, now 9-12-2 (5), to get
back to winning ways, because the southpaw – under contract
with Fight Production since 2003 – had won only one of his
last six starts (two draws) and Borka made for a perfect prey.
Heinichen started brightly, punching a lot more than in recent
outings, and dominating the action.
In round two,
Marco shook his opponent with three consecutive rights and a big
left. The Slovak, however, came with ambition and despite his
right eye slowly closing, managed to hold his own in the third.
But the local, pushed forward by chants of “Marco! Marco!”
from his family and friends, finished well in the last to run
out a deserved winner.
“My mom and
dad have helped me a lot during some difficult times and I’m
happy to give them this win. Hopefully, Elite Boxing will get me
more opportunities like this,” said Heinichen, who had to
shake many hands on his way back to the dressing room. Trainer
Detlef Kumm and manager and cutman Olaf Schroeder worked the
Berlin man’s corner.
