08.05.06: Female
featherweight contender Damaris Muthoni today starts
training with former rival Ina Menzer at the Universum Gym in
Hamburg to help prepare the unbeatend German girl for her
upcoming WIBF ‘world’ title defence later this month. The
29-year-old Kenyan from Nairobi went 10 rounds with Menzer last
September for that organizations Intercontinental title in what
was Muthoni’s only shot at a championship so far.

By
beginning serious training again, Muthoni starts putting
the disappointment of her bitter split-up from
ex-trainer Mario Guedes in early March behind, which
also led to the cancellation of a proposed WBF
‘world’ featherweight title fight. Since then,
Muthoni settled permanently in Hamburg and took time out
to re-organize her new private life.
After
initially threatening to take legal action against
Aachen-based Guedes for deprivation of liberty and
coercion, Muthoni has now, according to her manager Olaf
Schroeder of Fight Production, decided against this
step. “She simply wants to put this dark chapter
behind, forget about what Guedes did to her and get on
with boxing now,” Schroeder explains.

After
regaining her fighting shape, Muthoni, who has a professional
record of 8-3-2 (4 KO’s), hopes to return to the ring as soon
as possible. However, as a consequence of moving her base of
operations from Nairobi to Hamburg, the Kenyan is firstly
scheduled to undergo a thorough medical in order to obtain a
German licence.
