19.05.06: Unbeaten
Danish middleweight prospect Fawaz Nasir (9-0, 5 KOs) is
hoping to get his career back on track in 2006, after a longer
than anticipated break since his last bout in October 05. In
that fight, Nasir’s encounter with Slovakian Richard Remen was
declared a No-Contest in the third round, when both boxers
suffered bad cuts after a clash of heads. The cut kept Nasir out
of the gym for the better part of two months, which caused a
scheduled fight in January to be cancelled, and since then his
full-time job took too much time out of his schedule.
But Nasir
recently got a new job, which enables him to again commit to
boxing, and since he assures managers Olaf Schroeder and Henrik
Risum that he has kept in shape with regular roadwork during the
break, a “comeback” might not be too far away. And Nasir
should not expect a long line of easy pushovers in his quest to
establish his name on the European scene:
“A
lot of time has been wasted, and I think it is time for Fawaz to
show us what he is really made of. Boxing is too serious and
time consuming for everybody if in the end the progress is not
there. Fawaz has the talent for sure, but now we all, including
him, want to find out if he has the mentality and attitude to be
successful,” says co-manager Risum.
Risum
and Schroeder plan to sit down with Nasir and trainer Brian
Mathiasen sometime in the coming weeks to lay out a plan for the
future.
