25.05.06: Fight
Production today made a rather surprising announcement, when
manager Olaf Schroeder confirmed that his company released
Kenyan featherweight Damaris Muthoni from their
managerial contract, which was due to run another two years
until 2008. The 29-year-old Muthoni last year became the German
manager’s first-ever female signing and it seemed that the
pair was quite tight, sticking together closely during hard
times earlier this year when huge problems with Muthoni’s
first German trainer Mario Guedes arose.
Just two and a
half weeks ago, Schroeder organized for Muthoni to spar with
former opponent Ina Menzer in Hamburg and announced his
charge’s upcoming ring return, but it now emerged that
Muthoni’s spell at the Universum-Gym lasted all but one week.
However, Schroeder did not confirm that this had anything to do
with their split and declined to go into any details. He just
stated:
“Unfortunately,
disagreements had developed on a number of issues and in those
cases it is better to get out of the car before it crashes. We
both made our points clear and there are no hard feelings. I
still think Damaris has a lot of ring potential and I wish her
all the best for her future career.”
During
her one-year spell with Fight Production, Muthoni had scored
three non-title wins and only lost credibly on points over 10
rounds to the aforementioned Menzer, by now WIBF ‘world’
champion, for the WIBF Intercontinental crown. Her association
with Fight Production ends with an overall record of 8-3-2 (4
KO’s).
