26.08.06: Berlin
cruiserweight Marco Heinichen today left the
hospital again after a successful operation on his left elbow
was performed earlier this week. The southpaw had been
bothered by on-and-off pain in his arm, which even restricted
him from fully using his jab. When loose bone splitters
were discovered in the 32-year-old's elbow, Heinichen's doctor
insisted on immediate surgery.
"It all went perfect, and I
will start running again on Monday," Heinichen
enthusiastically said upon leaving the hospital care, "I
can't wait to get into the gym again, because I'm really
getting a kick at the thought of using my lead hand again
completely painfree in a long time." Trainer Detlef Kumm
and manager Olaf Schroeder, of Fight Production, admitted
they had long pushed their charge to do something about the
hurting elbow, but that the fighter always figured a short
rest would sort out the problem.
Heinichen had boxed twice this
year, the last time in April when a closed eye forced him to
surrender to world-ranked Pavel Melkomian, and his journeyman
ledger now stands at 9-13-2 (5 KO's).
