Heinichen And Schroeder Don’t Need A Contract
BACK

7.11.06: Three years of cooperation ended amicably as Fight Production, headed by Olaf Schroeder, and Berlin cruiserweight Marco Heinichen agreed to terminate their managerial contract by November 1. Heinichen and his trainer Detlef Kumm will continue to work towards a Nov. 11 all-Berlin clash with René Huebner (to whom Heinichen lost a close 6-round decision two years ago). The nature of that fight was the reason Schroeder proposed his step-back as manager, as it takes place under the auspicies of the German Boxing Association (GBA) and will be contested for something called the ‘GBC World Cruiserweight title’. The GBA is the German national rival body of the EBU-affiliated Bund Deutscher Berufsboxer (BDB).

“I don’t want to talk bad about the GBA, but I can’t take them serious and I simply don’t want to be involved whatsoever with this body,” explains Schroeder, “and with all respect, having two guys with negative records fighting for a ‘world’ title says all you need to know about the GBC. On the other hand, Marco desperately wanted a chance to avenge his loss to Huebner and win some kind of belt, thus to end our contract is the best solution for us all.” The manager, however, emphasized that he will continue to cooperate with both Heinichen and trainer Kumm: “Marco is a great guy and our relationship will remain just like it was and I will always help him if I can. The only difference now is that there will be no piece of paper anymore saying I’m his legal manager.”

The 33-year-old southpaw had 12 fights under the Fight Production banner (4-6-2) and leaves the fold with an overall record of 9-13-2 (5 KO’s).
