30.1.07: Already
in hard training for a planned bout on February 17 against
former IBF Intercontinental champion Malik Dziara, Fawaz
Nasir (10-0), and his management Risum Boxing and Fight
Production, have accepted an offer to instead fight German
prospect Sebastian Zbik (16-0) for the vacant WBO
Intercontinental middleweight title one day earlier (February
16) in Cologne, Germany. Spotlight Boxing will promote, with PRO
7 to televise.
“This
was just too good a chance to let pass. It will be a very tough
and difficult fight for Fawaz, but beating Zbik will get him
into the European ratings and mean that he will, due to the deal
we have made, in the future be promoted by one of Europe’s
leading promoters” says co-manager Olaf Schroeder.

Risum of Risum Boxing adds: “Zbik is good, but not unbeatable,
and Fawaz is training harder than ever before, enjoying
world-class sparring with (WBA # 7, WBO # 6) Reda Zam Zam. The
things we have to gain is just so much bigger than what we have
to loose in this fight, and we are all looking forward to work
with Spotlight”.
With just
under three weeks to go, Nasir is confident that he can win his first
title fight, saying:
“I am
willing to go through hell to win this fight. I have great
sparring, and my training is going great. This opportunity has
really made me exited and more motivated than ever. I can’t
wait…”

Sebastian Zbik
turned pro in 2004, and will, like Nasir, be in his first title
fight. He is coming off a career-best win over Brazilian
champion Jose Hilton Dos Santos (W10), and have also beaten
Fight Productions former world-rated Gotthard Hinteregger (W8).
While Zbik have an edge over Nasir in experience, the Dane may
be on top when it comes to punching-power, having stopped five
of his ten victims, compared to Zbik stopping seven out of
sixteen.
The Zbik vs.
Nasir fight will headline the first promotion in a new
cooperation between Spotlight Boxing and PRO 7, and the German
TV station is already beating the promotional drums, sending a
TV crew to Nasir’s hometown Aarhus to film a feature for their
build-up programming. On February 7, in Hamburg, the two boxers
will be face-to-face for the first time at a massive press
conference to officially announce the event.
