Dutch Dress Rehearsal For Fischer!

BACK

29.1.2008: Frankfurt heavyweight Willi ‘De Ox’ Fischer aims to clear the final hurdle towards a meaningful fight when he headlines a small event near Utrecht in the Netherlands on February 16, staged by Fight Production and Wim Koelewijn in cooperation with the amateur club ‘De Voltreffer’.

The 35-year-old Fischer successfully returned to the ring last year and in contrast to the on-going German version of the ‘Seniors Tour’ involving former stars like Henry Maske, Axel Schulz, Graciano Rocchigiani, Dariusz Michalczewski or Sven Ottke, the former WBO ‘world’ title challenger showed he is not looking purely for a pension cheque, but is serious about working his way up one more time. Now Fischer, whose two comeback wins brought his overall record to 34-6-1 (22 KO’s), has been declared ready for bigger things by his training team headed by Tom Leidenheimer and manager Olaf Schroeder of Fight Production is in the process of coming to terms for such a fight with promoters Arena Box-Promotion.

“Willi has been out a bit longer than we wanted after his last fight in September, to let a busted eardrum heal out,” Schroeder said, “For that reason, we decided to stage this show in Holland so Willi can sharpen his tools and I am absolutely convinced he will shock a lot of people in 2008. We are talking about something very specific with Arena and if all goes well, Willi will be in a very intriguing  fight in March.”

‘De Ox’ will feature in a scheduled six-rounder with local ticketseller Justin Barnes in the other pro attraction. The rest of the show will consist of amateur fights.
