Nasir Fights Tough Latvian In Denmark!

BACK

7.1.2008: After six months out of the ring following two title fights almost back-to-back in 2007, Danish super middleweight, and former WBO Intercontinental title-challenger, Fawaz Nasir (11-2, 6 KOs) is counting the hours before his ring-return on Saturday night in Aabybro, Denmark. He wants to get back in the win-column quickly, and then go back ito the gym to prepare for more fights during the coming spring, and then hopefully a third crack at a belt after the summer.

"We are hoping to get two or three wins under Fawaz belt before aiming at another big fight after we came so close to winning titles last year”, says co-manager Henrik Risum of Risum Boxing, who handles Nasir in cooperation with Fight Production in Germany. “I hope Fawaz has learned from the fights against Sebastian Zbik (L12) and Lukas Wilascheck (L10), and that it will be third time lucky in 08."

In Aabybro, Nasir will fight teak-tough Latvian Sandris Tomsons (2-11, 1 KO). The numbers on Tomsons ledger are not frightening, but is deceiving nevertheless. Less than two years ago he lost a controversial split decision against the 34-3-2 Stephan Trabant in Germany, and many felt he deserved the decision over undefeated (9-0) Thomas Troelenberg in March of last year. Tomsons is coming off a knockout victory, and will face Nasir with intentions of “upsetting the applecart".

Nasir vs. Tomsons will be aired live on Danish TV channel DK4.
