13.3.2008:
Fawaz Nasir
(12-2, 7 KOs) has been handed a magnificent, once-in-a-lifetime,
opportunity to make something of an international breakthrough.
If he beats Tanzanian puncher Maneno Oswald (27-16-1, 21 KOs) on
April 4 in Aarhus, Denmark, he will enter a new tournament
called “The KO World Series” with boxers from all around
the world fighting for the opportunity to box for a title in the
USA late this year.
The first round of the tournament will take place on April 18
in Macao, China with bouts in four weight classes contested
over four rounds. Semi finals will be in June, also over four
rounds, while the final will then go ahead over eight rounds in
Las Vegas this coming fall.
The last man standing after the final will then be granted a
twelve-round title fight in the USA in October.
First round and semi final bouts will additionally be “spiced
up” with knockout-bonuses given to boxers stopping their
adversary in the first or second round! Opponent for Nasir in
Macao is still not solidified, but all entered boxers are, like
Nasir, up-and-comers hungry for a chance to prove themselves.
The organizers behind The KO World Series are expected to
release more info to the public about the tournament as well as
first-round-draws for Macao within the next few weeks.
Danish TV2 today (April 13) followed Nasir as he signed the
contract for the tournament, and the Dane is obviously exited
about the adventures that lay ahead, saying:
“Sometimes incredible opportunities like this come when you
least expect it, and you just have to jump on them. I plan to
make the most of it, and I know this could be my biggest chance
for a road towards eventually fulfilling my goals and dreams.
Going to Macao will be an adventure in itself, but I wanna go to
Las Vegas too and win a title”.
But getting ahead of one self and forgetting to focus on the
next fight, instead of fights in the future, has cost many
boxers dearly in the past. Nasir of course doesn’t want to make
that mistake:
“I can’t look past Oswald on April 4! If I don’t beat him, none
of this will matter anyway, so I must stay focused and take one
fight at a time”! |
