21.6.2008:
Danish super middleweight Fawaz Nasir (13-2, 8 KOs) is
determined to give everything he has when he takes on IBF # 4
contender Robert Stieglitz (31-2, 19 KOs) over eight
rounds on July 11 in Cuxhaven, Germany. The 28-year-old
boxer-puncher signed the contract on Saturday, and realises this
is a magnificent chance to take over the Russian-Germans world
ranking, and with that get himself significantly closer to a
world title-fight. |

"This fight is all for the glory and has nothing to do with
money. I strongly believe that I can win this fight if I do what
I am supposed to do, and I have everything to gain and nothing
to loose. Everybody, except me and my team, believes I will
loose, and that motivates me. I am one victory away from being
one of very few Danes ranked in the top-10 with one of the major
sanctioning bodies”, says a psyched-up Nasir.
Robert Stieglitz is a former IBF world title-challenger, and is
coming off a loss in a final eliminator against Librado Andrade
on March 22 in the USA, a fight that Nasir have already studied:
"I have seen several of Stieglitz fights, and especially the
Andrade-bout is of course very interesting. I realise that he is
more experienced than me and will have some kind of advantage
fighting on home-ground, but no guts no glory, and I am taking
this as an opportunity of a life-time. I know this fight can
take me to a completely new level". |

"Nasir
is coming off two decisive stoppage-victories since dropping a
very close decision against another nationalized German, Lukas
Wilaszeck almost a year ago. His other loss was also a very
close decision against another undefeated German, current WBO #
1 Sebastian Zbik, and the Dane feels those fights have given him
valuable experience that will help him against Stieglitz on July
11:
"
I know a lot of things now that I didn’t know one or two years
ago, so I don’t see why I shouldn’t have an excellent chance
against Stieglitz. He is a very good boxer, very skilled and
seasoned, but my trainer and I have the tactics ready, so we are
looking forward to the big challenge".
While Nasir only has two title fights under his belt (the bouts
against Zbik and Wilaszeck), Stieglitz is a veteran of no less
than ten. He is a former IBF Youth champion at both super middle
and light heavyweight, and a former IBF intercontinental
champion at super middle. He fought for the IBF world title
against Columbian puncher Alejandro Berrio in March 2007 and was
a favourite to win that bout as he holds a victory over Berrio
from 2005. But Berrio pulled off a minor upset and stopped
Stieglitz in the third round.
After loosing the final eliminator against Andrade in March,
Stieglitz is now hoping to start a third run at becoming world
champion with a victory over Nasir, who is proving himself once
again as a true sportsman by going abroad to take a great
opportunity when it presents itself.
Will it be third-time lucky in Germany for Nasir? |
