Kovacs Takes It Out On Poor Glofak!

20.8.2008: Undisturbed by the recent discussions about the EBU’s unfair exclusion of superwelterweight Attila Kovacs, the Hungarian scored an easy marking-time win last night, halting hometown journeyman Anton Glofak in three rounds on a LP Promotion show in Sturovo, Slovakia. Kovacs, in improving his record to 24-1 (17 KO’s), took it easy in the first round and was maybe a bit too playful, but put the foot on the gas and duely floored Glofak twice in round two.

After the third knockdown in the next round, Hungarian referee Miklos Döry terminated what essentially was a mismatch. “Yeah, I could’ve possibly finish it earlier,” the 34-year-old Kovacs confessed afterwards, “but I wanted to try a few things in there and was actually enjoying myself.” The fight was shown on Slovakian television and taken up by Sport1 for Hungarian viewers.

“Attila’s next fight will allow him to make a statement, so this was a nice warm-up,” said manager Olaf Schroeder of Fight Production, who disclosed that he is working with Hungarian partner Zoltan Petranyi on having Kovacs back in the ring by the end of September, early October.
