Ray Mercer pulled off an upset
Ray Mercer shouldn’t be fighting at the age of 47. It should be
over, and it is, there aren’t any skills left at that age. We
could clearly see it in Karlstad but how Richel Hersisia from
Holland, 13 years younger, with a glossy record 30-3, 24 KO’s,
could manage to get himself into the wrong fight with the former
champ, and sink down to the lowest of low to lose on points
after six rounds to this former great was a bit of a mystery.
Not to take anything away from Ray, he did what he could but
Hersisia should have been able to handle Mercer at this stage of
his career, but clearly he couldn’t, where does he go from here
I wonder?

Mercer beats Hersisia
Former heavyweight champ "Merciless" Ray Mercer had enough left
to beat "the Dutch Sonny Liston" Richel Hersisia on a majority
decision over six two minute rounds. It was scored 59-55 for
Mercer from two Swedish judges while Belgian Daniel Van de Wiele
came up with 57-57. Mercer controlled the action behind a heavy
jab in the first rounds and seemed to shake Hersisia in the
second. The Dutchman had good spells in the fourth and fifth
when Mercer looked every bit a faded 47-year old. In the final
round Ray went for the body and Hersisa didn´t like that one bit
and with the strong finish Mercer won 58-56 on my card.
