Pearman: Hi Frans thanks for talking with us! You fight Danny
Williams on Nov 30 for the vacant WBF heavyweight ‘world’ title.
How are preparations for the fight going?
Botha: Preparations for this fight are right on track. I feel
really good.
The fight takes place in Egypt (Giza) and the ring will be
erected right at the foot of the Great Pyramids. This will be a
magical backdrop for the fight. Does it give you greater
incentive to put on a world-class performance?
Oh, definitely. I look forward to presenting the fans with a
great performance.
Danny Williams is very well known on these shores but how much
have you seen of him in action? Will you be studying him on
videotape?
To be honest not much! But I will definitely study him very
well.
You haven’t fought since July last year when you scored a 12
round points victory over Bob Mirovic. Any worries about ring
rust after all that time on the sidelines?
Not really. A lot of quality sparring will assist me to shake
off the ring rust.
Looking back at your record, you have only lost four times in a
long career. Would you say that a loss to Williams would signal
the end of the road for you?
I will strongly think about retiring if I lose this fight.
You are fighting for the vacant WBF championship. How would you
compare the WBF title, to the other, more widely recognised
belts out there?
Look, when George Foreman won the WBU title it became a
recognised body. It all depends who the champion is to make any
organization well known. It’s the fighter who makes the belt not
the other way round.
How do you see the state of the current heavyweight division? It
looks as wide open as it has been for some time. Do you believe
you still have a part to play in the shake up?
It’s a complete shambles. Anybody that can fight a bit stands a
chance of winning the title. The champions are greatly
protected.
Many fans remember your KO loss to Mike Tyson. Danny Williams
holds a KO win over Tyson. Do you think that gives Danny a
mental edge?
He might think so! Tyson was way over his peak when he fought
him, but he got the win and very few can add that name to their
winning record.
Egypt isn’t known as a boxing hotbed. What do you think the
locals will make of it and why should they go and watch it?
The first big boxing event in their country; sure they will come
to see the fight. The locals and boxing fans worldwide.
Finally, any predictions on the fight and have you a message for
all your fans.
The return of the ‘White Buffalo’! My fans know I come to fight
and I predict it could go either way – UP or DOWN!!
