8.6.2009:
Putting the potentially career-threatning injury problems, which
forced the cancellation of a March challenge to German champion
Sebastian Köber, firmly behind him, Fight Production’s
heavyweight star Willi ‘De Ox’ Fischer dazzled the
1.400-strong audience last night (June 6) at Neuwied’s Ice Hall,
taking apart countryman Werner Kreiskott in four
one-sided rounds. The official result went down as a TKO 5, when
a dispirited Kreiskott elected to not come out for the fifth
round. With the win, Fischer raised his record to 37-6-1 (24
KO’s) and in fact has not lost in almost five years now. The
clash headlined a nine-fight bill presented by Punchup Boxing,
the company of semi-retired heavyweight Turhan Altunkaya.
The 36-year-old Fischer, from Frankfurt, answered questions of
the local media when back in the dressing room:
Willi, are you happy with the fight?
Definitely, you saw what I did in the ring and I was really
determined. I needed to show that my injury was just back luck
and not the end of my career!
So your shoulder didn’t bother you tonight?
Not at all, everything was fine and I have to thank my physio
therapist. The first diagnosis in February was terrible, but now
I feel great and there are no problems whatsoever anymore.
Please give us your analyzes of the fight tonight!
Well, everything went according to the plan (trainer) Tom (Leidenheimer)
devised. From the off, I put the pressure on Kreiskott with my
left jab and he simply couldn’t touch me. He is a tough guy, all
respects, but two times I almost had him down, shaking him once
to the head and once to the body. In the end, he simply couldn’t
take no more…
And now you will go on to fight Köber for the German title?
I certainly hope so and I want to do it as soon as possible. I
trust that (manager) Olaf (Schroeder) will quickly work out
something with Universum (Köber’s promoter) and I hope that
Köber still wants it. But if not, I am ready for any challenge
now. I did my comeback the hard way and now its time to reap the
rewards! |
