Ahraoui Catching Up

BACK

8.3.2010: German welterweight Ali Ahraoui, from Wiesbaden, last Saturday (March 6) made his first 2010 ring appearance a success, stopping tough Karim Allous in the fourth and last round in Siershahn, Germany. In a fight made over the welterweight limit, Ahraoui had to overcome a determined effort from Allous, but eventually his class told and referee Frank Ottehenning rescued Allous, who was punched to a standstill.

In his second fight under the Fight Production/PunchUp Boxing management, Ahraoui had stablemate and heavyweight Willi ‘De Ox’ Fischer working his corner together with the trainer they both share in Tom Leidenheimer.

Nevertheless, starting slowly, Ali lost the first round, simply because the quick Allous was faster. However, the favourite upped the pace considerably from the second round onwards and immediately started to have success.

Unfortunately, the referee denied him the chance to already finish matters, when he saved Allous under severe pressure to replace his gumshield at the most inappropriate moment.

Allous collected himself enough to possibly gain a share of the third round, but was finally hunted down and stopped in the fourth.

Trainer Leidenheimer afterwards emphasized the need for longer distances for his charge:

“Ali needs 6- or 8-rounders next, because after all we want to fight for some title in this year!.”

The 31-year-old Ahraoui, who was a top class amateur and now sports a 11-1-1 (8 KO’s) pro log, certainly is ready for it.
