The Beauty And The Beast In Denmark

29.9.2005:When the Fight Production team travels to Risum Boxing’s Danish promotional debut (Henrik Risum’s company has previously only promoted in Kenya!) on October 14 in Struer, Denmark, the motto of the day could well be ‘The Beauty and The Beast’, because while middleweight Fawaz Nasir has model-style looks to go with his unbeaten record (9-0 with 5 KO’s), his bill-sharing heavyweight stablemate Richel Hersisia’s certainly possesses beast-like punching power.

The appearance (in a scheduled 6-rounder) of 31-year-old Dutchman Hersisia brings back memories of his early career in which he was under promotional contract with former Danish promoter Anders Vester and boxed in Denmark a total of 8 times. Since those times, Hersisia, nicknamed ‘The Dutch Sonny Liston’, won and lost the WBF ‘world’ crown and is now holding his national as well as the Benelux titles with his overall record standing at 25-1 (20 KO’s). He last fought on September 10 in Rotterdam, for the first time without long-time trainer Mourad Louati, and admitted to struggle a bit before devastating Belarussian champion Vitaly Shkraba in six rounds.

Now promoted by Spanish outfit Tundra vs Barcelo, who take advantage of Hersisia’s second christian name Pedro and the perfect Spanish vocabulary of the Dutchman, the puncher from Den Haag is poised to box in Spain in November.

“To fight on Henrik’s show suits me perfectly to gear up for next month when I want to make another impression on the Spanish fans,” beamed Hersisia, and admitted: “I always loved fighting in Denmark when Anders (Vester) promoted, because the Danish people seem to like me a lot. I’m really exited that Henrik gives me the chance to see them all again!”.

The show in Struer is also sort of a Danish return for Fawaz Nasir, although the middleweight of Irani/Iraqi descent is a native Dane since his childhood and trains in near-by Aarhus under Brian Mathiasen. This is because Nasir has not fought in his own country since 2002 in his fourth fight. The part-time model, 26 years of age, also became a victim of the end of the promotional activities of Anders Vester, then boxed only sporadically until finally signing with Fight Production and Risum Boxing late last year.

Nasir (Photo) started training recently with a short stint in Italy together with former ‘world’ champion Gianfranco Rosi and now sharpens up with Mathiasen. “I know I was pushed a bit in my last fight (W 6 over dogged Ata Dogan), so I want to make sure to look good when finally boxing in front of my family again,” said Nasir.

In a rather strange move, Risum Boxing declined to disclose any information’s on the opponents in fear of them being bribed out of appearing! The story behind this unusual manoeuvre: Promoter Henrik Risum has been declined a Danish licence some years ago, because of the well-known conspiracy between leading promoter Mogens Palle and the Danish Federation (DPBF) and thusly promotes this show under the supervision of the German Federation (BDB).

While Risum’s decision is perfectly legitimised by the European Union Constitution and the European Boxing Union Ltd. (EBU), plus having obtained all necessary authorizations from Danish authorities, the aforementioned conspirators and their PR man are giving it their best shot to torpedo Risum’s promotion. Fight Production’s Olaf Schroeder, who acts as Technical Delegator for the show, smiles:

“Isn’t it amazing? They really come out and try to harm a little small-hall event, like it’s a threat to them! If that wouldn’t speak volumes about their sick states of mind, it would be a great laugh, wouldn’t it? It’s really sad if someone has such a sorry life. In any case, we want to be guarded against any eventualities, so the names of the opponent have to remain a secret. Stranger things have happened when it comes to the corrupt Danish Federation.”
